After a long work day, I felt like a special dinner. A little while ago, we found a seafood market that sells some live sea creatures. So, we stopped there and I chose a dinner entrée. He was very cute and blew lots of bubbles while I was taking pictures of him. And he was delicious.

French toast for dinner = yummy. Also, we tested out the stroller with a stuffed elephant. It was a pretty slow day.

31 days to go…

IMG_4965

…so we thought we better try to assemble some of our baby gear. Here is the combo stroller/car seat we got from Ivan and Terry (Thanks, Ivan and Terry!). Dana figured out the most complicated design and only cheated to look at the instructions a few times. Now we just have to figure out where we’re going to keep this thing…

We’ve had a lot of rain recently (spring in the Northwest – big surprise) and Salmon Creek is showing it. The creek is pretty swollen and has flooded its banks.

Happy Vernal Equinox and First Day of Spring!

Just a little over a month to go! I am quite large, as you can see. The baby is becoming very good at lodging himself into uncomfortable corners I didn’t know he could reach. I guess this is just the beginning of him getting into places I’d rather he not…

The aftermath of the baby shower. It was small but pleasant and well stocked with tasty things to eat. Thank you, all for the the presents. Thanks to Else and Terry for throwing the shower! I’m sure our little Viking will appreciate all the nice stuff.

In preparation for my baby shower the following day, I made some lemon bars and petit fours. The petit fours were a big hit at the shower, but with almond-flavored cake filled with jam and coated in frosting how could it not be good?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Dana and I played “sound it out” Scrabble: a version of the game we invented and decided to try out. The main rule is that the other player has to be able to pronounce your played word as a real word. For example, for my first word I played “qlans” – pronounced as “clans.”  At one point Dana played “xumed” and earned 46 points. He beat me by about 50 points. But I was suffering from English Major induced nausea from all the misspelling… so that’s my excuse.

Pi at last! We had to skip pi day because of our illness, but we finally got our pie: purple plum – blackberry pie. The pie was delicious. I tried again to make a nice flaky crust and failed. Pie crust is becoming my nemesis.

Today I did feel much better. My sickness got bored with me and strolled right on over to Ruth…so no pie today either. Though, there is good news again; this sickness has a short attention span and left Ruth by the next morning.

Happy Pi Day!

IMG_1716

This ought to have been a picture of a wonderful pie, but instead you get a picture of me lying pathetically on a chair. I was sick for the day and did not feel like eating much. Thankfully, it was just for the day, for it was basically gone the next morning and I felt much better…

Today was a very blustery day outside with some very impressive rain fall. It is nice to be indoors sometimes. Today in Primary, the Relief Society Visiting Teaching Coordinators came and announced that the sisters had done 90% of their visiting teaching for the previous month. They then proceeded to pass out very delicious-looking cookies out to all the sisters. I say “delicious-looking” because only the adult sisters got the cookies. Though I think their accomplishment was great, the children did not seem to think it was fair that they didn’t get a cookie. I, being the only adult man in the room, had to agree with the children. Moral of the story: Don’t pass out very delicious-looking cookies in a room filled with children and a hungry adult man if you don’t have enough for everybody. (But good job to the sisters in our ward). After church, Ruth made these chocolate muffins to appease me. Ruth is a nice person.

have ben on the lookout  a ice, aaaaaa yrnky thngs wit. (attempt on the wireless keyboard from across the room…not so good)

Let‘s try this again: I have been on the lookout for a nice, orange yarn to make baby things with. I finally found some today at Wal-mart. I thought a stripped booty would be nice to try. I am not thrilled with the result; I think it looks like an elf shoe. But Dana said it was cute, so maybe I’ll make a second one.

We decided to have a night out, since soon we will have fewer chances for that. We went to a restaurant that we have been wanting to try called The Blind Onion. They are a local pizza place that gets very good reviews. This is the pizza we got; it was called “The General.” It had sausage, salami, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and fresh mozzarella on it. It was very delicious. The box in the background is what out condiments were brought in (including a very good herb mix). After dinner we went to see Tron: Legacy. We watched the first Tron last summer and we thought the new one was a fun movie.

We were also saddened to hear about the tsunami in Japan. The restaurant had the news on and we saw many devastating images. We are grateful that people have been quick to respond with help for those affected.

Today we decided to watch Amadeus. This movie is a favorite of ours. It has good music, acting, and story. If you have never seen it then we suggest you should.

It was Women’s Day today. I got these for Ruth in a neat little store in Depoe Bay. Ruth picked them out and I saved them till this morning.

From both of us: Happy Women’s Day!

My mom wanted Ruth to come over and ask her some questions about the baby shower that she is planning. So, while they talked, I took some pictures of this moss on a rock wall outside. I thought it looked really cool with all the things growing out of it. My mom then took us out to Applebee’s for dinner. It was a good day.

P.S. In a little over a month, you will get to see pictures of a baby, and not bugs and moss and the like.

This is our underwater friend, the water scorpion. He lives underwater and likes to have something to hang on to. So, a few days ago I got him some new twigs from outside. They had some buds on them that have now decided to bloom. We thought that it was odd to see flowers bloom underwater, and our friend didn’t seem to care too much for them either, since he attacked one while I was taking pictures of them.

Like Ruth’s sister, Emily, I also get happy when I start to see Easter candy. Ruth and I have decided that Easter candy is the superior holiday candy, though Christmas has some great things as well. One of my favorite candy bars is White Reese’s (I love white chocolate), but they are difficult to find outside of gas station mini-marts. So, finding these was a delicious treat.

After taking my dad and Terry to the airport, Ruth and I took a slightly more scenic route home down Marine Drive. This road runs along the river on the Oregon side. Though it was a bit of a gray day, we still enjoyed the nice views of the river.

We played scrabble. Dana was sure when he drew the “Y” tile to determine who plays first that he would be going last, but then I drew the “Z.” It turned out to be one of the more difficult games either of us had played. But we ended up being able to place all tiles. We also tied at 245 points. (Don’t judge us, scrabble rulebook! It reads: “In a 2-player game, a good player scores in the 300-400 point range.”)

This picture was taken after we came home from seeing The King’s Speech with Dana’s dad. The movie was very good and we appreciate that it won Best Picture at the Oscars. This is the thermometer in our car. This is as cold as it has been in 2011 so far (the temperature may have dropped while we slept).
