My parents left today. We have little signs that they have been here, though. The folded air mattress still in the bedroom, dishes in funny places in the dishwasher, and, of course, a half eaten package of Almond Roca. Thanks for coming and playing with us!

“Weird” Al Yankovic! Dressed as a Jedi! Surrounded by Storm Troopers! Can it get any better?

Dana has been trying to see Weird Al in concert since he was 10. Due to various circumstances, he has never had the opportunity.

Until today.

We saw Weird Al was coming to play a concert at the Oregon Zoo and we made sure to buy tickets in April to go see him. It just so happened that it was the same day my parents were in town. So we went to the zoo in the morning. Then Grandma Rose and Grandpa Keeler took Magnus home and played with him while we stayed for the concert.

Thanks, Mom and Dad! We love you!

My parents came to town! They are heading to Idaho for Dave’s graduation but came to visit us for a few days. We took them for a hike in the Gorge.

Being in the Young Women’s Presidency at church gave Ruth the chance to set up the new bulletin board display. We went to the church tonight so she could do that. The girls are supposed to draw or take pictures to post on the board for the rest of the year. Hopefully they participate.

The world through the eyes of a 2 year old. We have a smaller camera that Magnus is allowed to use sometimes, though he still gets his fingers in most of the shots (or maybe that is his artistic trademark).

Magnus is still learning how to catch things. Tonight, we tossed around some yarn. He would catch it sometimes, but had a great time even when he didn’t. Here he is attempting to catch the yarn.

We went hiking through Ape Cave with the young women. It is a great hike that takes you 1 1/2 miles underground. It is a beautiful place and it was a good experience for those girls.

Dana has some display cases that he likes that are kind of a specialty item. For a long time we didn’t know what they were called and so it was hard to try and replace them because stores don’t normally carry them.

We recently figured out that they are called Riker Mounts. I ordered some for Dana for our anniversary off the internet, but I didn’t think they would arrive in time. So I commissioned Elina to draw a portrait of Will Riker from Star Trek to stand in for the coming gift.

We liked the result so much, Dana hung it on the filing cabinet in our room.

Thanks, Elina!

Between Father’s Day, Anniversary, and Birthday; Dana got the four Lego Ninja Turtles. Magnus really likes to play with them too. Here he made what looks like a Ninja Turtle raiding party on a Star Wars Lego ship.

Happy Anniversary to us!

IMG_4834

We had a good anniversary. Our friends in the ward agreed to watch Magnus in the evening so we went to dinner and then went to see Kon-Tiki in Portland. Thank you, Simmons!

Magnus was our official photographer for the evening.

Mato, the puppy, had a good visit with Ruth and Magnus today. Magnus is always happy to pet dogs, but he didn’t seem to like too much licking. That is what he told me latter that day: “dog a lick me lots.”

Happy Birthday America!

Happy Independence Day!

IMG_6028

We went down to the Fort again this year to celebrate our Independence and see some fireworks. Magnus really liked the big and colorful lights. Earlier in the day Ruth and Magnus had a chance to spend some time at the Fort making sea biscuits and eat some popcorn.

Ruth had an ultrasound appointment this morning. We all went, because she is far enough along we could learn the sex of the baby. It’s a boy! To celebrate we went to the Russian food store and got a treat. Magnus got a Kinder Egg. He liked the little monster toy he got inside.

Ruth and I went had a birthday date night, since last week was a bit busy. We ate a delicious Thai restaurant and went to see Man of Steel, the new Superman movie. It was a nice evening. Magnus got to hang out at Farmor’s house with Farmor and Elina. He even got a hamburger, one of his favorites.

It was our church youth group’s beach trip today. Ruth is a leader, and Dana offered to help drive, so we got to go out with them. We went to Sunset Beach on the north Oregon Coast, where you can park right on the beach. The weather was perfect and the water wasn’t super cold, so there was lots of swimming, sand, and sunburns to go around. Dana and Magnus even took a short trip to see the wreckage of the Peter Iredale. Magnus really liked the “broken ship.” We spent the whole day out there and it was a lot of fun.

Summer Solstice; First Day of Summer!

IMG_4799

It was an interesting day. It started the night before with our toilet bubbling. We soon found none of the drains worked in the whole apartment complex. So, after phone calls, the landlord sent over a plumber to unclog the pipes. Since we are the closest to the street, he used our apartment to attack the problem. At about 2 AM he fixed it and cleaned up, and we got to go to bed. We are thankful the problem wasn’t worse and that it got fixed. I didn’t take a picture of the plumber, but here are our fish.
