We bought a toddler bed off Craigslist (Magnus is too big for his crib), and we had to pick it up in a part of Portland we rarely go. Afterwards we decided to go to this park and look around. On the way we found out that Magnus might get car sick like Dana did when he was young. It was not a pleasant discovery.
But here is Magnus after he got out of the car and got some fresh air. He is petting a mossy branch. He liked running around the little glen.

We went for a walk today across the Columbia River on the I-5 bridge. We went to take a look at the old hotel that burned down a little over two weeks ago. It was a big fire that lasted for several days (the hotel has been closed for years so no one was hurt). It was interesting to see such a large building reduced to a shell. The walk also had nice views of Vancouver. We also went down along the waterfront. Magnus really liked seeing the boats at the dock.

I went grocery shopping today and Magnus stayed home with Dana. Magnus spent part of the time shoving diapers into my shoes. But only after he carefully placed a particular magnet in it.

Trying out some new pizzas. The first was pepperoni, olives, purple peppers, shrimp, and homemade mozzarella. The second was ham, goat cheese and peaches. I preferred the first and Ruth liked the second. Both were very good.

While Ruth was at her friend’s house, Magnus and I headed up to my dad’s office to pick some more plums and blackberries. Over the summer Magnus has become very good at harvesting different fruits (and then eating them). Here he is showing his grandpa some very choice plums.

Our little creeper.
Tonight we had a family party to celebrate Anton’s birthday which was on Saturday. We all went out to a BBQ restaurant in Portland we had not tried. They had fantastic ribs. Here is Magnus watching Ruth through the window as we waited for a seat. We ended the night by watching Anton blow out his candles and then sharing the cake he had chosen. Happy delayed birthday party, Anton.

When it comes to drawing, Magnus gets very intense. You have to wonder if he knows what he is drawing. Most of his art is scribbles, but he really loves to create them.

Happy Birthday, Anton!!
Rather than go all the way home from our vacation, we stayed the night in Salem with Grandpa Ivan. He made breakfast in the morning. Here Magnus is monitoring the strawberry slicing. Thanks, Grandpa Ivan!

After Crater Lake we decided to head to the coast for a little excursion on the way home. We went down to Bandon, OR where there were these cool rock formations. Can you find the one called face rock? We also visited Coos Bay and played in the sand dunes.

Day 2 at Crater Lake. This waterfall recently had a trail to it made for the public. So it’s kind of a “new” waterfall. Magnus enjoyed the hike but especially the part where he got to put his feet in the water.

Magnus is practicing to be a relay runner for the Olympics. I got to go to a movie by myself this afternoon while Dana and Magnus walked to the park nearby. They walked through the high school to get there and visited the track and the shot putting circle.

Anton painted his bedroom today. With Dana’s help he was able to finish and begin to move furniture back into his room. Magnus helped by testing out the durability of the shelf.
