Happy Birthday, Ruth!
I got a haircut for my birthday! I went to a real salon (read: not Supercuts) and got my hair cut. She straightened it and made it look super cute in a way I will probably never be able to reproduce. But that’s OK. It was a fun way to spend my morning.
That night we went to happy hour at Gustav’s and ate cheese fondue and potato pancakes. It was delicious!

We did early birthday for me tonight. I made my own cake and did not put my normal effort into it. It was still pretty tasty, though. Magnus put my candles in.

Our ward had a special Christmas Breakfast for our primary kids to see Santa today. We went and Magnus got to see Santa and afterwards we stopped at our favorite donut shop. We got a maple bacon bar, banana fritter and cherry fritter, a buttermilk bar, and a chocolate peppermint donut. They were all very delicious.

Gideon is practicing his magic skills. They are somewhat lacking except for the “making fluids appear out of nowhere.” He’s pretty good at that.

Dana wanted to go to the Gorge today to see the ice build-up from the last week of frigid cold. He went by himself and was able to stop at several waterfalls. The best one was Elowah Falls, which we just went to a few weeks ago. The temperature was warming fast (it reached 37°F), so the delicate ice formations were starting to give. Dana saw one chunk of ice, larger than a person, fall from the top; and when it hit, it made a loud boom and the shock wave made a lot of other ice fall of trees and such. It was awesome.

Magnus loves LEGO. Here he is playing with our past LEGO Star Wars advent calendars. He made several of the ships into new creations. Some of them were pretty cool.

It snowed today, yah! It was a very dry snow, so not good for building anything with, but Magnus and Dana had fun running around outside.

Magnus learned how to “Walk Like an Egyptian” today. We also were able to get our Christmas tree set up. It still had some ice on it from the forest, because it has been very cold around here as well.

Happy 1st week, Gideon!
We headed up into the forest to find our perfect Christmas Tree. But we first stopped in Carson to pick up my friend, Brian, who came with us. As we got to higher elevations, we reached the snow level, and eventually we found a good place to search for a tree. It was 21°F with a dry snow covering the ground. The snowy forest was beautiful. Magnus liked making snowballs and throwing them at Brian. After wandering around a bit we found some good candidates. That’s when we went and got Ruth and Gideon out of the car. Ruth helped to make the final selection. Gideon got to be bundled up being warm. Here we are with our tree. On the way out Dana and Brian stopped to see Panther Creek Falls all covered in ice.

It is December now, so the elves have started coming to our home. Every morning they leave a small present in our shoes. To start the month, we got a LEGO advent calendar. Magnus was thrilled to just get to open something.

Gideon Orion got to come home today. It is a little strange to have another child in our house and it is a bit of an adjustment. All are happy and well.

Happy Thanksgiving!
We spent our Thanksgiving at the hospital with our new son. We even got a little Thanksgiving meal there. In the evening, Dana, went over to Farmor’s house to see Magnus and for dinner. Back at the hospital, we had some more visitors come and see Gideon. Magnus seems very excited to have a baby brother and wants to keep rubbing his face on him. We spent that night in the hospital.

Happy 0th Birthday, Gideon Orion!
It was almost noon when we were at the hospital again. But it took almost 7 more hours till the baby was born. But when it was finally time he came out in about 2 minutes.
Gideon Orion Jensen was born at 6:38 PM on 11/27/13. He weighed 9 lb. 13 oz. and was 20 and 3/4 inches long. His head was 13 and 3/4 inches around. Both he and Mommy are doing very well.

Today is the baby’s due date. More contractions were felt today, and around 8 pm we went to the hospital. After a bit they told us Ruth was not far enough along, so we went home. But we knew it would be soon…

We took a Sunday morning drive through the Gorge and it was quite windy on Crown Point. Dana got Magnus out of the car for just a minute before he wanted to get back in the car. He said, “I don’t want to fly away.” Can’t blame him for that.

Magnus built this “gun” today out of legos. It came with a box you could “plug in” so it would work, and not be out of batteries. He played with it all day and then dismantled it when Dana got home from work.

We cleaned the turtle tank today and Magnus got to have some quality time with him. He gets impatient when George Michael doesn’t scoot around the floor fast enough.

Dana was planning to go on a hike in the Gorge today by himself, but Ruth and Magnus decided to come along. While Dana did the longer side trail to see a second waterfall, Ruth and Magnus rested then made their way to the bigger falls. It is almost a 2 mile hike round trip to Elowah Falls, but both Magnus and pregnant Ruth made it in and out. They did very well. Magnus had fun throwing rocks in the river while Dana took pictures and Ruth rested.

Happy Birthday, Steen!
Happy Veteran's Day! Thank you to everyone who is served or is serving now.
Ruth found a dragon fruit at Winco and bought it for Dana, who loves to try new fruits. It was ready to eat today and it was very good. It is almost like a non-tart kiwi. Plus it is a really pretty fruit.

The Capitol Christmas Tree came from Colville National Forest in Washington this year. It stopped on Saturday in Vancouver and we drove over to visit it. Smokey the Bear was also there (and was less scary than Santa Claus) and Magnus wanted to get his picture with him.

We went and saw the new Thor movie (we figured we have to fit in some theater time before the new baby comes and makes it hard to go out). It was great! We liked it better than the first one.

Dana broke out his Micro Machine space ship collection for Magnus to play with. They have been much loved and discussed and we had to watch a few Star Wars movies that had some of the ships in them to see them in action.

For naptime today, Dana showed Magnus how to sleep with his stuffed animals. He has insisted on this sleeping arrangement ever since.

Dana got some chanterelle mushrooms from the farmers market and made them into some delicious cream of mushroom soup thanks to Fannie Farmer. I was a little hesitant about not-button-mushroom-soup, but it was super good! Dana is really good at making soup and this was no exception.

Some nice ladies from my ward threw me a baby shower today. We got some really cute warm clothes for the new baby. We are anxiously awaiting his arrival!

Today was a busy day for us. During the day we had a garage sale at Else’s. That night, Magnus went down to Salem and had a sleep over with Grandpa Ivan and Grandma Terry. Ruth and Dana went to see Ender’s Game (which we enjoyed). I asked Dana to take a belly picture of me and he was careful to get my shadow in the background. As I write this, he is singing the Alfred Hitchcock Presents music. One day I may forgive him for that.

Happy Halloween!
Magnus dressed up as a crocodile this year. After we brought the costume home I realized he strongly resembled his costume from two years ago. Maybe we’ll branch out next year…
