Dana watch Magnus this morning while I went and had some alone time (I went and watched Moonrise Kingdom which I really enjoyed). Magnus crawled under our glass table and looked up at Dana several times. He liked mashing his face and hands up against the glass. Good times.

Happy Pioneer Day!
Because of our new desk, George-Michael had to relocate. He is now more accessible to Magnus who is quite pleased with the new arrangement. He goes over to George-Michael at least once a day and tells him stories. They’re pals.

We got to go and watch The Dark Knight Rises tonight. It was very exciting.

Yay for furniture! Dana bought this desk when he was in high school and it’s been living at Else’s house since he left. We moved it into our house today! We also recently discovered our apartment includes onsite storage (!!!) and we’ve moved a bunch of stuff in there. Lots of good changes around there parts.

Picking blueberries at Farmor’s house. Magnus is helping. He’s getting pretty accurate with the raspberries, but the blueberries still need some work. He picks a few green ones, puts them in the bowl and then takes a handful of blue ones out to eat.

We got jealous of all of Will’s fun bubble posts, so we made our own bubble juice. Our bubble wands are not as fancy as Will’s but the bubbles were a big hit.

The rest of my anniversary present arrived today. It came a little late because it came from Malaysia. They are laminated butterfly wings. Magnus already bent one, but it seems OK. Thank you, Dana!

Magnus is getting more independent. He insists on feeding himself regardless of the difficulty of getting the food to his mouth on a fork or spoon. We go through a lot of bananas. He ate one this morning. And then styled his hair with it. I guess he’s going for all natural styling products.

There is only one place in Vancouver to get fresh seafood and it’s on the way home from work. Dana bought some cleaned, frozen baby octopuses and we cooked them tonight. First we blanched them in boiling water then we braised them for a few hours in our Dutch oven. They were delicious. There ended up being more than we could eat, but we felt pretty accomplished making such a yummy, exotic meal.

Magnus had a lot of fun watching the movie we rented: Real Steel. He got super excited seeing the robots fight. This morning we watched several parts again and this is him still excited after we turned it off (just imagine some squealing, lots of shaking and dancing).

Our neighbors have a wide array of kids toys that they are nice enough to share with Magnus. Today was pretty warm so they broke out the octopus sprinkler. It had to by stashed in the basketball hoop so the kids would stop fiddling with it. Magnus would walk up to it, get wet and run away. Then do it all over again.

Dana had a long day at work today and came home and wanted to relax. Here Magnus helps him pick a movie to watch.

Still at girl’s camp. It gets hot in the afternoon just in time for free time. The girls love to swim in the lake.
Dana, Elina, and Magnus drove up to Mt. Rainier and played, then in the evening they picked me up and we went home. I was sorry to leave early, but had a good time at camp.

Back in Else’s garden. Everything is blooming and beautiful.
I went to girl’s camp and left Magnus with the Jensens while Dana was at work. Anton went above and beyond and watched him most of the day. Thank you, Anton!

We had some leftover gooseberries and decided to make gooseberry pie with them. We didn’t quite have enough berries so we supplemented the filling with plums. It was pretty tasty.

Happy Anniversary to us!
Today was very hot, but the evening was very pleasant and we spent some of it out in the backyard. Anton let Magnus have his phone to listen to music and Magnus danced for a long time. Here he is boogeying down.

We went up to Seattle today to escape the hot weather and visit our friends from BYU. They just got a job up here so we’re looking forward to seeing them more often. Thanks for playing with us, Hulets!

Happy Independence day!
We had a nice day. It started at the ward breakfast with pancakes and homemade buttermilk syrup. Then that afternoon Ivan came over and we walked down to the Fort to see the parade. Then that night we had family come over for dinner and dessert and games, then we all headed down to the Fort for the fireworks. Magnus and Calli practiced their pointing before the fireworks started.

We also got some berries and the Farmer’s Market called tayberries. They are a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. They were huge and juicy. I made tayberry shortcake with them.

Magnus has become quite the artist. We are trying to teach him to draw only on paper. This was done outside, however, so we gave him some leeway. He took a stick and dipped it in the dirt, then drew on the post with it. Then dipped it back in and drew some more.
