This weekend was my 10 year high school reunion. So, that was strange to think about. On Sunday, evening we had a nice get together with my old group of friends. Jessica Oliver was up visiting from Texas and it was good to see her. She probably had more fun seeing our new baby, Magnus. It was a good evening with burgers, hotdogs, and s’mores…and lots of small children running around.

We had a nice visit from Ruth’s cousin, Suzanne. She came down from Redmond to see a friend in Portland and had time to stop by. It was good to see her and Magnus seemed to enjoy her visit.

A sleeping Magnus is a happy Magnus… in general. Here he is in his new bouncy chair. He is using the “calming vibrations” setting.

Magnus seems to like tummy time, so long as he doesn’t have something else planned, like eating or sleeping. He is getting much better at holding his head up and controlling where it goes.

Today was an eventful day. Magnus took his first trip across state lines. We did a little shopping in Oregon and got Magnus a bouncy chair. We also got this set of Duplos that has a block for every letter in the alphabet. I though it was neat how we could spell “Magnus Thor,” because none of the letters repeat. Then I just kept adding pieces to hold his name together, and eventually used the whole set. This is what I ended up with. Ruth says it reminds her of some sort of Magical Mystery Tour Bus. Ruth also made Cheese Danishes, and they were awesome.

Happy 3 weeks Magnus!

IMG_3585

One of the things Magnus likes to do is push himself around with his legs. Sometimes this leaves him in some odd positions. Though he does seem to enjoy being upside down on occasion.

As wet weather continues here in the Northwest, we are still seeing rivers rise. Though nothing is really in danger, thanks largely in part to our system of damns, it is still interesting to see the high water. This is Salmon Creek, but now it is more like a lake.

Our second trip to Farmor’s house. Else is Danish, and in Denmark, grandparents are referred to as “Mom’s mom” or “Dad’s mom.” So Else is Dad’s (Far) mom (Mor). She is happy to let us come over and do laundry because then she gets to play with Magnus.  Magnus also got to hang out with Uncle Anton. We know it’s only a matter of time before Anton gets Magnus hooked on Star Wars like he did with Daniel.

We took Magnus to church for the first time today. We visited Dana’s home ward and let the ward members there ogle over Magnus. He did fairly well for his first time. Next week we’ll be going to our own ward.

Due to massive snow pack and a longer winter, the Mighty Columbia has flooded. It reached 16.6 feet above normal (flood stage is 16 feet). This is nowhere near the big flood in 1996 or like the large scale flooding in the east, but still interesting. This is the view of a wetland along the river, now it is more wet than land. We even saw a salmon jump among the trees…tree salmon? We took Magnus down to see the river, but he was only mildly impressed. He is still coming to terms with his baby carrier and light sprinklings of rain.

Another outing, this time all three of us got to go. The weather was beautiful, 70 degrees and clear, so we thought we’d let Magnus try out his stroller. We were getting along famously until he wet himself. Then he fell asleep. His parents got tired much sooner than they anticipated, but it was a nice walk.

Happy explosion anniversary, Mt. St. Helens!

I went on an outing (to the doctor) by myself with Magnus today. Scary! But we both survived. Needless to say, it was kind of a lame picture day. But Dana did get a picture of Magnus’s pale blue pants with nobody inside them.

Ivan and Terry came over and cooked us dinner (Thanks, you guys!). They got a chance to hang out with Magnus and we got a chance to visit with adults. Also of note, Magnus had his first session of tummy time this evening and he seemed to enjoy it, at least for 20 minutes.

I got out of the house today without Magnus, my first time of significant length away from him, to do some grocery shopping. We like trying new and different sodas. This one was particularly good; I’ll probably have to get it again.

Apparently we don’t do anything anymore… except hang out with our adorable baby. Although we didn’t leave the house, we did get a chance to Skype with Dana’s sister-in-law, Katie, and Magnus’s cousins in Florida. It was good to visit with you guys!

Magnus can’t wait to have the full use of his limbs. Until then he satisfies himself with climbing around on Dad. He is also fairly good at lifting his head up, only to try and head-butt us when he realizes it is still a little too heavy.

Happy 1st Week, Magnus!

We want to express thanks to Ruth’s friends, Cheryl and Jae, for providing Thor with his mighty hammer (baby sized), complete with ancient runes spelling out its name: Mjolnir, and things to make it rattle. This seemed like a good day to take this picture because Ruth let me go see the new movie called Thor with Anton, which I have been waiting for for months (Thanks Ruth). Some have asked if we named Magnus Thor after the new movie, but it is just a coincidence (he was supposed to come a few weeks ago). We had thought of the name, Magnus Thor, awhile ago, and waited to meet him before finally deciding…and the name just seemed to fit. Though the Thor in the movie and the Thor of legend are pretty awesome people to be named after.

Today was the last day we had with Rosanne. After Magnus was late coming, she postponed her departure, and we are glad she did. She was a very big help around here getting ready for the baby and helping during his first week. Thank you so much, Rosanne, for everything you did for us. We hope you can come visit again soon.

Happy Mother’s Day!

IMG_3232

This was Ruth’s first Mother’s Day and she had a meal all picked out for us to eat: Chicken and Pears. We thought that all was ready to make the meal that afternoon…but what we thought was chicken in the freezer was not. So, I drove to my mom’s house to get some chicken. While there I took a little time to walk around the garden to see and smell the flowers all coming out, including the lilacs. Anton came out and helped me pick several flowers and make a nice arrangement for Ruth. I made it back home and we had a delicious meal. I think Ruth had a nice Mother’s Day.

Rosanne, Ruth’s mom, commented that this is what trust looks like in 3D. New Mommy Ruth is holding the hand of New Baby Magnus. I just like how cute his little hand looks holding Ruth’s thumb.

Magnus loved the visit to the hospital so much that he was gearing up to do a song and dance number. So far, things are going well. Magnus has been adjusting well and has even let us get a bit of rest.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

IMG_3080

Today we got to come home from the hospital. Magnus thought the car seat was a terrible punishment and let it be known until we were about halfway home. When we got home some of the neighbors were outside and wanted to see the new neighbor. Magnus seems to be adjusting quite well and has even slept a bit, as did we. Rosanne has been a tremendous help and we are glad she is here to help. Here Magnus is having a rest and sporting some awesome booties (thank you, Leslie) with Mom watching from her restful spot.

Day 2 with Magnus. Thanks to Dana, my mom, and a staff-load of friendly nurses, we’ve all been able to cope with the recovery. Here’s me snuggling with Magnus after I got a shower. Yay for hot water, handicap bars, and (of course) cute babies.

Presenting Magnus Thor Jensen: Born at 10:07 am, at 10 lbs. 14 oz. 23 and 1/4 inches long. We got to the hospital at 2:03 after 2 hours of moderate labor at home. Things got serious around 9:30 in the morning and after pushing for 22 minutes, he arrived. This picture was taken around noon. He’s our handsome boy.

Not much happened today, I suppose it was the calm before the storm of change. We were interested to hear the news that Osama bin Laden had finally been caught. It was certainly a big piece of news. In the evening we went to visit my mom and Anton. I took a picture of my mom’s lilacs. Spring seems to have started a few weeks latter here, so the lilacs are just starting (they usually come in by the 15th of April). Around 11 pm Ruth started to feel some regular contractions, but the rest of that story is for tomorrow…

Yay for visitors! We were happy to have Will, Courtney, and Whitney come for a visit. They went to church with us and then were able to make it home after that. I think Whitney was just happy to be able to walk around and do what she wanted after being stuck in stake conference.

Dana had to work much of the day, so we had to entertain ourselves as best we could with him gone and Whitney napping. We played a few rounds of Creationary while Whitney took her nap. Will made this winner. Can you tell what it is?

Baby is one week late.

IMG_2689

Speaking of babies, we had the joyful opportunity of seeing Whitney, and she brought her parents, Will and Courtney, along. They arrived late Thursday night, so the fun didn't start till this morning. They all came to see a new baby, but they had to deal with just us instead. We had a great time entertaining Whitney most of the day. Here she is being quite fascinated with Ruth’s giant Lego man keychain. She ended up trying to drag Ruth’s purse across the room to share this discovery with her mom. I just really liked the expression on her face here as she examines her find.

Today, I made something yummy. This brand of limeade is my favorite (and I have tried many) and it is hard to find sometimes. I took the rest of the juice that was in the box and filled it with blackberries and blueberries (for I have decided that most purple fruits taste good together). Then I added a little lemon-lime soda for carbonation. It was very refreshing.
