Magnus is a morning person. Often when I find him in his crib he has his blanket rolled over him in this fashion. This picture reminds Dana of a hermit, which makes me think of that hermit-lady from Labyrinth that tries to make Sarah forget, He’s way cuter though.

Happy Birthday, Dad Keeler!
At Anna’s mermaid birthday party, all the guests got awesome sunglasses. I made Magnus try his on today to see how they fit. I guess it’ll be awhile before wears them for realsies…

This is what remains of our August Thanksgiving turkey. When we told our 8-year-olds at church that we had had Thanksgiving, they got very concerned that they had missed the wonderful holiday. They were sure that is usually happens at a different time of year and were relieved to know they were right.

Another trip to the Farmers Market yielded these wonderful huckleberries. Also, we had a nice get together with the family to eat a small Thanksgiving, including turkey, mashed potatoes, yams…and corn on the cob and Snickers salad, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. It was very good indeed.

We went over to Farmor’s to have a nice session of Guitar Hero with Anton and Elina, while Magnus was watched. It has a been a while since we all played together. We had fun. And Farmor always likes spending time with Magnus. Here he is asleep with Farmor and Calli, Anton’s lady-friend.

Happy Anniversary, Will and Courtney!
Today, Mom went out and Dad stayed home. Magnus started getting sad soon after Mom left and Dad found ways to entertain him. Today’s show was the mirror, which was clean to begin with. Magnus had a grand old time touching and wiping his hands on the other baby he was looking at. He left a pretty good mess.

Date Night!
It occurred to me at some point recently that one might have a picture-a-day blog in order to improve their photography skills and come up with great photos.
That is obviously not the case here. Dana and I went to see Harry Potter 7 part 2 in 3-D! Our fancy phones come equipped with flashes that are much too bright for their own good, obviously. (Pretend I said that last part like Professor Snape).

Lego has come out with a series of unique minifigures. This British soldier is from Series 5. Others we hope to get include a gladiator and a detective a la Sherlock Holmes.

This is our couch in a state of disarray as I try to wash and sew cushions. It’s done now (yay!).

Sunday dinner in Salem. Dana’s step sister is back for a visit amidst her study abroad in Germany. She loves it there and will be returning for a few more months. It was good to see you, Amy! Magnus enjoyed discovering Terry’s granite countertop and polishing it as he drooled and turned in circles.

Summer is in full swing now as we hit our hottest day so far. At 95°F, it was the first day to be over 90°. We finally got to pull out our fans to help keep us cool. Magnus is basking in the cool ambiance that our Hawaiian Breeze fan creates (the fan is on, though it doesn’t appear so). These were all the rage for new married couples in our apartment in Provo five years ago. It doesn’t get as much use now as it did then, but its never let us down.

Pretty slow day. But when in doubt, put a picture of a laughing baby. We did rent a redbox movie, The Conspirator. It was good.
Thursday, August 18th, 2011
An old friend of my mom came to stay with her this week. Our families were neighbors when we lived in Sumner, WA (when I was just a baby). It has been a while since I have seen her. We had a nice evening, which included taco salad and ice cream.

We went with Elina up to Johnston Ridge by Mt. St. Helens today. The weather was very nice and the sky was clear. It was also covered in flowers up there. You can read more about our trip here.

We had dinner with Ivan and found this carrot mixed in with the other carrots. Can you tell which one I am talking about? Weird. We also took Magnus with us to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at the cheap theater. We had a good time.
Monday, August 15th, 2011
Ruth spent a lot of time making dinner for a family in the ward, so we decided to just get a “Hot-n-Ready'” pizza from Little Caesar's and eat it in the park. Magnus enjoyed the water feature, though he was unsure about this fish that we made him sit on.

Sunday evening at Farmor’s was very pleasant. The weather was nice enough to spend some time outside. The new family of hummingbirds thought so too. They kept chasing each other and calling to each other. They would even fly right up to us and between us. We believe this hummingbird is the baby of the male we saw in the spring.

“Why is the rum always gone?”
Magnus is now an intermediate bottle holder. After we place his hands on the bottle in a good place, he can hold it there until it is empty, at which point he tells us about it.
Friday, August 12th, 2011
I tried to take a picture with my new “smart” phone. Magnus did not think much of the intensity of the flash. Neither do I.
In summation: Phone = smart, flash = dumb.
Thursday, August 11th, 2011
Homemade ice cream: Fantabulistic! We made ice cream and ate it with raspberries. It was delicious.

Picture: cool number!
Elina is home for the summer and she has connections. Her friends went out of town and left their animals in her care for a few days. The cat pictured here (named Sullivan) needs attention. Elina made sure to play with him a lot and let us come over to help. He had his own paper bag and I was able to show Dana and Elina how to play with a cat in a bag. Not pictured: Ishitar the fluffy cat and Amy the sheep dog. They also have a turtle named Rufio (who is a girl).

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad Keeler!
Magnus is getting better at sitting up supported by the couch. Me, I’m a pro at sitting on a couch. I do it all the time. Here I am giving Magnus some pointers.
We got new cell phones today – “smart” phones. Smarter than our old phones, at least. We had great phones with slide out keyboards for easy texting. But we did not realize how feebleminded they were until we upgraded.

Happy Birthday, Anna!
“Don’t you ken there’s a fair?” We went to the Clark County Fair today. It was pretty sweet; complete with a visit to the animal pavilions. Some people in our party thought this view out of the cattle pavilion was humorous.
P.S: Ruth was unpleasantly surprised to learn that pavilion only has one “L.”
P.P.S: Instead of our opening quote from Brigadoon, Dana wanted to use this quote from Charlotte’s Web: “The fair is a verifiable smorgasbord…”

Today, we were able to Skype with Rhode Island. Magnus seems to enjoy seeing the people on the screen. This was also the first time Dave and Magnus “met” each other. The real real question is: who is mirroring who?
We were also able to go to Salem and have a delicious dinner with Ivan and Terry, followed by a rousing game of Scattergories.

Magnus likes to suck on his fingers, and it never seems to be the same ones. This is what it looks like when he can’t seem to decide which to put into his mouth.
Thursday, August 4th, 2011
“A wedged bear in a great tightness.” Or a not so great tightness, in this case. Magnus is becoming our champion roller and can now roll over from his back in both directions. Dana was spending some quality time on the floor with Magnus and looked away for a second and when he looked back, Magnus was here.
Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011
Magnus is a little dazed after our trip to the mall, which was a success. We visited the pet store where Magnus liked to watch the mice. Then we got some See’s candy with our gift certificate (a late anniversary present to ourselves). We found Brave Little Toaster for 6$ at FYE, and finished off the evening with some self-serve frozen yogurt. I tried triple berry and mango (with sprinkles, of course).
It was a lot for Magnus to handle and he fell asleep at 9 and slept until 4:30. 7 hours! Woohoo!
Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011
We took Magnus to see his second movie, Cowboys and Aliens. It was a fun, summer movie. Lots of explosions and horse riding. Magnus didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Captain America, but almost.
Monday, August 1st, 2011
Magnus may have a problem standing on people. But he sure does like it up high. I think he’s just preparing himself for what his body has hinted will be his fate: TALLNESS.
Sunday, July 31st, 2011
Can you guess who the most popular one in the family is now? Else and Ivan like to see us, but they LOVE to see Magnus! He is the standard after-dinner entertainment when we all get together. He’s the standard before-dinner entertainment too. We just can’t get enough.

A view from the library. We went to our new library today to check out some books. We have finally started to get some sun around here and everyone has been soaking it up. All the big windows in the library are perfect for experiencing it without the heat.
