Arby’s feast. Ivan treated us to Arby’s tonight. Thanks, Ivan!

While I was at mutual tonight, Elina’s friend, Carrilynn, brought over her new dog and let Magnus meet him. It was very rainy, but no one seemed to mind. The dog licked Magnus’s hand which he thought was funny.

We have this nice bird feeder that Dana hung nicely on our fence.
The birds have been a little slow in coming. But the squirrels have been getting rotund from it. This morning we woke up and all the seeds were gone as was one of the seed cakes. I bet the squirrels have tummy aches.

Magnus has a bag of toys that goes to church with us. He likes to wear it around his neck. Sometimes his shoulders get in there too. And his most of him.
Saturday, May 18th, 2013
Magnus’s dinosaur plays songs: one song for each letter of the alphabet. One of his current favorites is “Bingo,” and he can find it on command.
Friday, May 17th, 2013
This is one of Magnus’s favorite videos. He also enjoys his fair share of Dr. Seuss. He can now say, “Hop on Pop” (which sounds like pop pop pop) and, “Green Eggs and Ham.”

Dana and Magnus hung out today while I watched Star Trek Into Darkness. They went to Craft Warehouse to check out frames and Magnus had a good time playing with the goofy kid in this mirror.

Dana was SUPER excited to go see Star Trek Into Darkness tonight with Anton and Brian. And he took a cool picture of the movie poster at the theater on his phone but then the picture was corrupted!
(Can we just say how much we don’t like camera phones? Reason Number 1: photos end up corrupted and BOOM: memory lost.)
So, we recreated the movie poster, complete with implied Starfleet logo and Benedict Cumberbatch wearing a coat that looks like a cape. So, technically we did not take this picture on May 15th, but this is what represents the day.
Tuesday, May 14th, 2013
Magnus got some markers for his birthday (Thanks, Mom!) and sometimes he uses them to make art. (Sometimes he takes the caps off and uses them as fingertip protectors). We like his tiny squiggle words as well as his more spacious creations.

Happy Birthday, Cheryl!
There is nothing quite like laughing till your face hurts.

Happy Mother’s Day!
We had a nice Mother’s Day with Else and ate some delicious cake. Before bedtime Dana made sure to get some pictures of his finished Super Star Destroyer with Magnus for scale.
Saturday, May 11th, 2013
Magnus and I went over to Farmor’s house and helped Else and Anton in the garden. All that digging in the dirt wore us out, but Magnus was the only one who fell asleep outside.
Friday, May 10th, 2013
Dana got this awesome Lego set several months ago and finally had some time to work on it today. It was an epic endeavor. Go here to watch his progress as he built it. Magnus helped by keeping track of all the minfigures.

We spent the day exploring Cape Disappointment, Long Beach, and Fort Columbia. We liked seeing the driftwood on the beaches and the lighthouses. While we were on a beach a Coast Guard helicopter flew up and started doing training maneuvers about 100 yards away. Also, we saw the world’s largest frying pan.

Camping at Cape Disappointment SP on the Washington coast. It was Ruth’s idea to go, so I had to jump on it. The weather was nice and the place was empty. We couldn’t see another fire from our site. Magnus enjoyed running around outside all evening and playing in the tent.
Monday, May 6th, 2013
We spent the evening at Farmor’s house. At one point, Magnus wanted to hide under a blanket with Anton. Then he started piling various toys one the couch with Anton, so they would be under the blanket with him.
Sunday, Revenge of the Fifth, 2013
Dana found this rubber boa on his Cape Horn hike. Magnus was super excited about it. He has a huge affinity for snakes, though he has really only seen two. A few weeks ago we were at the Farmer’s Market and someone had a big boa constrictor. Magnus saw that and hurried forward wanting to touch it, the whole time giggling with excitement. So, when I brought this home he was quite pleased.
Saturday, May the Fourth Be With You, 2013
Dana met his friend Brian in the Gorge this morning to hike Cape Horn. It was a very nice hike with some great views. Plus he found some very cool things.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Magnus!!!
Magnus had a fun birthday. He requested a “Hulk…smash…cake.” He got lots of great presents, thank you everyone. My family came over for dinner and he was very excited about that. He even learned to say “two” when you ask him how old he is (though he usually holds up seven fingers).
Wednesday, May 1st, 2013
A bright sunny day called for a visit to the Lilac Gardens in Woodland. The flowers were in full bloom and the weather was great. It was nice to wander around the beautiful gardens. We also made a stop at the property Ivan and Terry bought up on the hill. The view is great.
Also, Ruth got an ultrasound to get a better date for our new baby. Baby #2 is due November 26.
Tuesday, April 30th, 2013
“Lava. Cake.” is what we had for dessert tonight. Magnus thought they were “dooood.” He was very vocal about his cake and its quality, as well as many other things this evening.
Monday, April 29th, 2013
Magnus has become very interested in cameras for some reason. Whenever one is within his reach he likes to turn it one and look through the view finder. We even found a video taken on one of our cameras from before Dana and I were awake. So we think it was either aliens or Magnus. Whoever it was was quite a heavy breather. And short.
Anyway, I supervise Magnus’s photo lessons when I can. He took this picture of some of his toys.
Sunday, April 28th, 2013
Our friend, Devin, was in town for the day and were very happy to spend some time with him. He came to church with us and we gave him a 10 minute tour of Vancouver, including a stop at this aviation memorial to the first trans-polar flight. It was made by a Russian so the plaque is in Russian. I first met Devin while on my mission in Ukraine. Thanks for visiting us!

I wasn’t able to go on the hike Anton and the Priests were going on because of work, so I just headed home. But it was a truly beautiful morning in the Gorge, so I made a few quick stops. This is a view of Beacon Rock near the campground. When I got home, we did have time to visit the farmers market. There were lots of dogs, and Magnus wanted to touch all of them.
Friday, April 26th, 2013
Anton needed an extra adult for his young mens camping trip, so I went with them. We camped at Beacon Rock SP in the Gorge. It was a great night for camping. And I found some fun little creatures that night.
Thursday, April 25th, 2013
Magnus has been helping me play Mario Galaxy 2. I am trying to get all the extra stars. Magnus lends support by alerting me every time I die (which happens pretty often) by saying, “I died.” He also does a dance of joy when I get a star. This is what our dance of joy looks like.
Wednesday, April 24th, 2013
Magnus added some some words to his vocabulary tonight: “Soupman” and “Baabat” (Superman and Batman). He just repeated “Soupman” all the way to the park with Ivan. He really loves his super heroes. He can now say Superman and Batman much clearer. Overall he is actually much easier to understand and he says new words everyday.
Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013
We drove up to Hood River today to drive through the valley and see the pretty fruit blossoms. We came too late, though, and most of the flowers were gone. There were some pretty poppies and the view was nice from this park Dana took us to.
For dinner we met up with with Dana’s friend, Brian, who works in Hood River.
Monday, April 22nd, 2013
We got a new laptop! Dana got me one for an early Mother’s Day present. We went to Best Buy today and picked it out. Oh, how we love technology! (But not as much as you, you see!) Thanks, Dana!
Sunday, April 21st, 2013
Silly time. Magnus has had fun using a chip clip as a pair of tweezers to pick up his toys.
Saturday, April 20th, 2013
Ivan and Terry took us all out to brunch this morning. Magnus filled up on pancakes.
Friday, April 19th, 2013
Magnus was very busy with his Duplos today. I especially like his long necked horse and the blue hippo on top of his house.
Wednesday, April 17th, 2013
We told Magnus when we left in the morning we were going to the Lego store. But then we took him to our Blockbuster that was closing to look for videos. We ended up getting Kung Fu Panda 2 for a dollar. Magnus kept saying “Lego Store” all day.
We did eventually take him to the Lego store. He was kind of drowsy when we walked in, but as soon as Magnus realized where he was he woke right up. He was very well behaved during the trip.

Happy Birthday, Else!
We went out to dinner with my mom and had a good time. On the way home was this awesome double rainbow.
We also pray for those impacted by the horrible events at the Boston Marathon.
Sunday, April 14th, 2013
We celebrated my mom’s birthday a day early, since we could all be there. We had a very good chocolate cake. I also went around her garden to see all the pretty flowers. Here are the future blueberries.
