Gideon is a growing boy. He is proving to be a very different baby than Magnus was. He loves to wiggle constantly, rarely sitting still, and has even rolled over (though by accident). The only reliable thing that seems to make him fall asleep is laying on Farmor’s tummy. So, we just need to figure out how to duplicate that.

This is the scene I came home to this afternoon. It must have been a busy day. That night Ruth and I also had a chance to go and see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. We enjoyed ourselves and our first evening alone since Gideon was born. Thank you Farmor for the opportunity.

For Christmas we got the Avatar: The Last Airbender collection. We have been working our way through it and have enjoyed sharing it with Magnus. We still really like it.

Lynn had some quality time with Gideon today. We were resting after a day of visiting the Pendleton Woolen Mill in Washougal where it was neat to see how wool blankets were made And at the Oregon Historical Museum in Portland we saw a really neat origami exhibit and a private collection of Presidential memorabilia. The collection included original documents from Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln and many others.

Ruth’s parents arrived today for a short visit. We were very happy to see them. Magnus liked having someone new to talk to and share things with. Grandma Rose also got some time to read stories to Magnus. That night we went out for Mexican food and then to our favorite ice cream spot.

Happy Old Christmas!
After a nice long visit, it was time to say good-bye to the Florida Jensens. We went over to Farmor’s house to have one last evening with them. The cousins were all very sad about having to leave. We are very glad we got to spend time with Steen and his family, and hope we will see them again soon.

The Twelfth Day of Christmas
Happy Three Kings Day!
Three brothers had an epic adventure blazing trails into the woods of the SW Washington. We visited three waterfalls, one easy, one difficult, and one arduous. The first was Big Creek Falls. A short walk from the car; we did find a way to climb down to the bottom of it though. Second we searched for Cave Falls, an mostly unknown 500 ft. tall waterfall. It is difficult to see for almost half of it runs underground through a lava tube, while the rest is in a deep canyon obscured by trees. The third was Rush Creek Falls. Considered amongst the top 10 waterfalls in the NW, with no trails to follow it is a 3 mile bushwhack one way, including a three to four hundred foot fight down into a gorge. But the falls were amazing.

Gideon Orion Jensen received his baby blessing today from Dana. We had lots of family come to support us and after church we had our traditional Christmas Day cracker feast (which we weren’t able to have on Christmas). The meal was awesome. It was an exciting, busy day, and we are so glad so many people got to come. Doesn’t Gideon look snazzy in his new vest?

Will brought his family to come visit us on over the weekend. Saturday we spent most of the day at home playing games. We also visited the library. Magnus really loved having time with his cousins. Here is Whitney reading some stories to Magnus.

Dana’s brother Steen really wanted to ski while he was visiting from Florida, Ivan took him and Dana up to the mountain. It was a great day and the snow was pretty good. They had a great time. That evening Will and Courtney arrived from Umatilla to spend some time with us.

Magnus shows off his new Ninja Turtle pajamas (incidentally, our turtle, George Michael, is in the background). Magnus loves watching original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon from when his parents were kids, so he is excited to dress like one.

Happy New Year! Good-bye 2013, Hello 2014!
We went over to Farmor’s house to bring in the New Year. Steen and Katie also came over. Dana and his brothers spent much of the evening playing some classic video games. Daniel also had a chance to join for a while. Almost everyone made it to midnight, Natalie and Kyle dozed off. Gideon slept much of the time, but here he is all ready at a few minutes to 12. Magnus also made it. It has been a great year!

Happy Birthday, Ivan!
For Christmas, Uncle Matt got Magnus this cool cat piano. He loves it. Tonight, he set up a little music stand with a little book on it. He then proceeded to have the cat play songs while he conducted. And every once in a while he would turn the page in the book and continue conducting. It was very cute.

Happy Birthday, Elina!
Elina had her birthday dinner of Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, and lingonberry sauce straight from IKEA in Salem. Ivan and Terry did a marvelous job preparing it. On the way home our van reached its own milestone: 100000 miles.

Ruth has been loving her Christmas gift of tiny dried marshmallows. She likes to put them in hot chocolate, on ice cream, or just straight to her mouth. It is a good thing see got a hearty supply from Anton and Ivan.

Katie and Kyle at our Christmas celebration in Salem at Ivan’s house. Our family and Steen’s family spent the night there, so we had some extra time with them. Terry made a wonderful create your own Panini dinner. It was good times.

Merry Christmas Eve!
Christmas Eve at Farmor’s. It was fun with all the kids there. We had a wonderful ham dinner. Anton and Megan found the whole almonds in their rice and cream desserts. Magnus was thrilled to open presents and see what they were. Gideon sat quielty during that time. Ruth got lots of tiny dried marshmallows. Dana got an awesome LEGO. The night was great. Gingerbread (or graham cracker) house night was a lot of fun. We watched White Christmas while we built our masterpieces. Dana built a Space Needle instead of a house. Magnus liked trying to get candy off of it till it fell over.

Dinner at Farmor’s house with everybody. We haven’t seen the Dana’s brother and his family in four years. So it is amazing to see how the kids have grown. Here Natalie gives us a great smile.
