We like to marvel at the very tall sun flowers in Farmor’s garden.

Happy Labor Day!
We headed out to the Oregon Coast again, and our friend Brian came with us. This time we went to Boiler Bay, just north of Depot Bay. This bay gets its name from a ship’s boiler that launched here from an exploding vessel on a stormy night in 1910. Magnus is pointing toward the boiler in this picture. Boiler Bay also had some great tide pools. We also saw grey whales feeding from the rocky point that juts out by the bay. Our day also included views from Cape Foulweather and Devil’s Punchbowl, and a walk/fossil hunt on Beverly Beach.

One of our neighbors gave us this giant heirloom tomato shaped like a heart. The perfect tomato for some delicious salsa.
Saturday, August 30th, 2014
Dana’s Aunt Alice and his cousin Kira came for a short visit. Magnus made quick friends with Kira’s children and was sad to leave. It had been a while since we had seen them, so we were happy they came.

Happy Birthday, Grandpa Keeler!
From our campground is a trail to the top of Hamilton Mountain. We just did the first part to Pool of the Winds, a waterfall in a tight rock crevice. The water pouring in makes air push out, making the wind. It was pretty cool.

Happy Birthday, Megan!
Camping at Beacon Rock SP. This meant Magnus got his favorite green cup. And Gideon got to crawl amongst a sea of rocks. It was all very exciting.
Tuesday, August 26th, 2014
Gideon got to meet the neighbors guinea pig. The guinea pig would wait for Gideon to come pet him, then it would run away across the yard. Gideon then would pursue at full speed. His crawling is much improved.

Beach day! We went out to Cannon Beach to enjoy the beautiful weather. The water was cold but the day was nice and we all had a good time.
Sunday, August 24th, 2014
When Magnus plays outside we often leave the screen door cracked so that he can come in and out easily. But we can’t do that now because Gideon tries to escape out the door. At the very least he sits by it and drops things out the hole. When it’s closed he can stand and look out at the hullabaloo.

One of Dana’s LEGO robots came out of storage to play with Magnus. Mostly Magnus likes taking off the robot’s grabby claw arm and carrying it around.
Friday, August 22nd, 2014
Dana got Gideon to take a nap this afternoon allowing me to finish waxing our table. Mommy loves nap time!
Wednesday, August 20th, 2014
We had some very ripe bananas and it’s much too hot to bake banana bread, so we made a chocolate banana pudding pie instead. It was pretty tasty. You can tell it’s hot because Magnus lost his shirt.
Monday, August 18th, 2014
We went out huckleberry picking today. Dana and Magnus also climbed down into a lava cave. It reminded Magnus of the cave of wonders.
Saturday, August 16th, 2014
Our neighbors had a pig roast! They were celebrating the birthdays of a few of their family members (also celebrating not moving to Tacoma) and they had a big party. We are so lucky to have such good neighbors.
Friday, August 15th, 2014
Dana found this transformer gift card and brought one home. Magnus LOVED it.
Thursday, August 14th, 2014
We went back to our secret blackberry spot (at Ivan’s former office) only to find it has been chopped down. In a serious way. And the hedge Dana and Anton used to spend hours trimming and maintaining is gone as well. Bye-bye hedge and blackberries.

Our ward party was tonight. It was one of the coldest evenings we’ve had in a while. But the kids still thought it was a good time to get wet. Magnus really wanted to play the balloon toss.

The fair ended last night, so this morning we went to pick up our entries. Three of my photos got second place in their categories and one got third. Ruth’s shawl got first place in her category, and she even got a cash prize: one hundred and twenty-five cents! It was neat to see our things on display at the fair and we will probably do it again next year.

Gideon is quickly becoming a speedy and mobile baby. His crawling method is funny to watch. He usually gets to crawling from a sitting position, so one legs kind of tucks under him as he uses the other one to propel forward. But he can get right back to sitting quite easily. An added bonus in this picture is Magnus in the background.

Happy Birthday, John!
Ruth got me this embosser for our Anniversary. We have been using to mark our library of books. It has been fun. Dana also went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He thought it was pretty fun.
Friday, August 8th, 2014
Happy Birthday, Anna!
George Michael the Turtle got a bath today and then we took him out to play. Gideon was not sure what to make of him.
Thursday, August 7th, 2014
Magnus built this guy and said he was President Business from The LEGO Movie. He even had the tall legs for him.
Wednesday, August 6th, 2014
“The fair is a veritable, smorgasbord…” We had a great time at the fair tonight. We got to see our entries to the art contests and we did pretty good. We saw lots of animals and watched the rides. Magnus and Dana saw some bull riding. There was a LEGO exhibit. And of course there was delicious food. We had a turkey leg and some milkshakes from the Dairy Women stand. It was a fun evening.
Tuesday, August 5th, 2014
We made it home just fine after getting our tire fixed. Thankfully Dana’s work let him come in in the evening, instead of the morning. The rest of the day was pretty normal, including Gideon getting food on himself.
Monday, August 4th, 2014
Anton needed another driver to help take him and his scouts up to the beginning of their week long hike. We volunteered. And since the drop off was right by Mt. Rainier NP, we “volunteered” to go there as well. The day was beautiful and we got to see lots of cool waterfalls (waterfalls are very abundant in the park) and great views of the mountain. There were lots of flowers out too. Our van even found a nice sharp thing to flatten its tire so we ended up having to stay the night in tiny town to get it fixed the next morning. We had a wonderful time. And we are grateful for having a supply of cloths in the car.
Sunday, August 3rd, 2014
Magnus likes to get into my tool box. This morning he made a little city out of the wrenches. Latter he built a temple out of the screwdriver tips.
Saturday, August 2nd, 2014
Our friend Jessica came to visit from Virginia and she brought her fiancé, Justin. We had a big get-together with much of Dana’s friends from high school. It was good to see everyone. Plus, everyone’s kids got along great.
Friday, August 1st, 2014
Gideon loves to feed himself. And he loves lots of different foods. But sometimes he has less than perfect aim at his mouth. We also went to see Guardians of the Galaxy and had a blast. Now Magnus wanders around telling people “Me am Groot.”
Thursday, July 31st, 2014
The recent warm weather has made the berry season start earlier this year. So we went out to see if the blackberries were ready. Our main spot we went was not, but we stopped somewhere else and got a bowl of them. Yummy-yum-yum.
Wednesday, July 30th, 2014
While Ruth was at Mutual (Youth Night), the rest of us were at Farmor’s. It was a nice evening to sit out on the deck. Gideon had some extra fun when he got one of the pork bones from dinner. He sucked and chewed on it for a very long time. He also had fun sucking on some smooth, round rocks.
Tuesday, July 29th, 2014
The Clark County Fair will start on Friday, but we went there today to drop of our entries for the photo contest and homemade clothing contest. We have been wanting to do this for a few years and finally did so this year. We hope they do well.
Monday, July 28th, 2014
We went down to Salem for dinner and got to see how big Audrey is getting. She is very cute.
