We got to meet Krista’s kids today; they were on Spring Break and Anton wanted to take them on an adventure into the woods. We first showed them the Gorge and some of its best waterfalls. Then we headed north to the Lewis River to hike between the four big falls. The weather was mostly wet and so were we by the end. But I think everyone had fun. Here Gideon rhapsodizes about Upper Lewis River Falls. We ended the day with dinner at Burgerville.

We had a bit of rain today. I think our front yard is one of the low places on the property. It only took 30 minutes or so for it to drain away, however. So that’s good.

Dana found these chocolate mushrooms at the Russian store. They were tasty. We ate them while we watched the movie Box Trolls (which we enjoyed quite well).

Magnus got invited to a birthday party here a week or so ago. Dana had to work and didn’t get to come. So we came today to let him try it out. The food was good.

Happy Pi day!
Dana visited his friend, Brian who got a new home recently. In the packing and unpacking, he found his collection of Zbot toys. He gave them to Magnus, who loved them. Thanks, Brian!
That night we went to an Elder’s Quorum dessert and game night. Everybody had fun. And dessert.

I wanted to get this cool pillow from Ikea that had a beetle on it, but when I went to buy it, they didn’t have it! They did have, in their clearance, some cushion covers for $1 each that were the right color, that I made into this pillow. (Luckily for Dana, Elina found the real beetle pillow at Ikea in Utah and brought it home for him. So now he has two beetle throw pillows.)

We have a luau coming up in the ward. The Beehives were in charge of designing tickets and handouts. I got to scan them into my computer.

We have several playgrounds within walking distance of out house. Magnus knows them by color. This is the red playground. It’s a busy place so we don’t go too often. And they have a sand pit. So whenever we go everybody gets really dirty. Here’s Gideon pre-sand play.

Magnus tells everybody we do school at home. Mostly that involves practicing writing letters on his whiteboard. We fit all the letters on there today. Next we need to work on letter placement = words. And lower case letters.

We keep this box of mints in our bedroom. And Gideon knows where it is. When he comes in our room, he sometimes stands under the box and whines. He likes Andes mints.

I have been saving this recipe for years and finally made them this week. They are Ina Garten’s Ultimate Ginger Cookie. The verdict: they’re good. Magnus would rather eat chocolate chip cookies. The recipe calls for quite a lot of crystalized ginger. Next time I make them, I’ll be leaving it out.

We walked to the library today and Magnus found some books to read. This one was about the Justice League fighting Starro, who had tried to take over the United States. At the end of the book, the president (who I thought looked like Mitt Romney) thanked them with a fireworks show.

Happy Presidents Day!
The youth had planned to go sledding on Mt. Hood today, but with all the warm weather and lack of snow, we decided to play human foosball instead. The kids were very good and we only had a few minor kicks in the face. Afterward, Farmor watched the boys while we went out for our Valentines date which was Laser Tag. We had a lot of fun and did pretty well. Now we want to go back again.

We had our family Valentine’s breakfast at Elmer’s. Everybody else had the same good idea we had because it was packed. Turns out, they had a guy making balloon animals for everybody. So Magnus got a dinosaur and Gideon got a monkey.

It was warm and dry enough to go rollerblading today! Dana watched the boys at the playground while I did a few loops around the park. It was the first time trying out my roller blades with their new wheels.
