Dana bought this papaya. He was introduced to them in New Guinea and has wanted to get one since. Yay for fresh fruit!

Friday, September 23rd, 2011: The First day of Autumn!
You’re looking at a picture on a computer of some pictures on a computer. Weird.
Dana has a photo page and he just recently put on some new pictures. Here is a link.

Dana is always coming up with fun things for he and Magnus to do together. Magnus doesn’t always know they’re fun, but I’m sure he’ll warm up to them.

After my haircut in the morning, we went out with Elina to the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge. There is a hike out to some basalt islands amidst the wetlands. We like going out and seeing what wildlife there is.

We went and saw The Help tonight. Super-good. We really enjoyed it. Magnus stayed home and cried at Ivan and Terry who were very good and didn’t sell him to any gypsies. Thanks for babysitting!
Dana took this picture late at night because it may not look the same soon…

Dana wanted some ice cream tonight. Unfortunately, the can of mini chocolate chips had other plans. Over the summer, they had gotten a little stuck together, so when Dana shook the can to break them up, they went all over. I was happily oblivious to this until he had mostly cleaned it up.

Can you spot Magnus? Here he is in his natural habitat. Notice the camouflage.

Elina and I went to a “How to host a murder” party. I was a rock star (see the leather jacket?) and Elina was a prince from an undisclosed eastern European country. In this case we had to figure out who the vampire was. It wasn’t us.

Homemade bread! I got a book at the library and made some ciabatta. It was delicious and I am pretty proud of myself. recipe to come…

No, this bowl is not extraordinarily large, we are in possession of tiny spatulas. Dana likes to clean his plate and has often commented about how we should have personal spatulas for each person included in the flatware. The other day at Tuesday Morning I found some. and bought them.

George Michael and Magnus meet formally for the first time. Despite Magnus’s apparent fear, he seemed mildly interested. George Michael wanted a dark hole to hide in.

Magnus is moving. He can get a lot of places doing his wormy-army crawl. Tonight he got to my water bottle and successfully got the straw into his mouth. His success hit a snag when he couldn’t make any water come out…

Farmor’s garden is a treasure trove of beauties. We found this spider’s web in the front yard and the sun was hitting it just right. A minute later the sun had moved and the shot was gone. How wonderfully serendipitous to find such a lovely shot.

Never Forget
This is my favorite pen. I got it as an award in my Creative Writing for Children class for having the most pages in my journal with words on them. (At the time, I was annoyed because our professor required us to buy a Moleskin journal. But at the end of the class when she handed out awards for most written and most illustrated, I was appeased.)
We had Stake Conference today. It was a special broadcast from Salt Lake. Elder Holland and Elder Packer spoke to us. Sister Dalton also gave a talk. I took my faithful pen out to take some notes in my church journal, and it broke in two. At first I thought it had just come unscrewed, but upon further examination, it didn’t go back together.
Sad Face.
Luckily, I recently found the pens at my local office supply store, so maybe I can go buy a new favorite pen.

Magnus is attempting to crawl. At this point, all he does is get into this position and rock back and forth. But I know it’s just a matter of time before he’s on his way. As of now he can army crawl to get to things he wants.

Happy Birthday, Anton!
We celebrated Anton’s Birthday today. We all went out to eat at Red Lobster for the endless shrimp. Then we went to Farmor’s house for cake…cheesecake. Here Anton is already instilling a love of Star Wars in Magnus. Elina gave Anton a card that plays the Star Wars Theme when you open it. This is our card-opening action shot.

Today, I (Dana) went out into the woods to hunt for bugs, views, and huckleberries. I was successful on all fronts. This is the wall of a gorge with a waterfall in it that has some very nice columnar basalt. The ones on the left even seem to be peeling of the cliff face like they are alive. I found some very nice huckleberry patches (more than I could pick). I also visited the ice caves and natural lava bridges. It was a very nice day. Thank you, Ruth for letting me have some time in the woods.
As an added bonus, it was 94°F outside and 32°F in the ice caves, very nice indeed.

High on the list of “Things Jensens are Snooty About” is cheese. Because of this, the Tillamook Cheese Factory is often a stop on trips to the Oregon coast. Upon returning from these trips this summer, we all had yummy cheeses that needed to be eaten. So we had a snooty cheese party! We had 13 different kinds of cheeses and several in the fridge that we never got to. Num yummy!

Burgerville celebrates 50 years! In memory of 50 years, Burgerville made their original menu available. We made sure to go get cheeseburgers and chocolate milkshakes. Here Magnus tries to sneak in a sip while I’m not paying attention.

How beautiful upon the couches are the feet of those…named Anton and Calli.

The warm, dry weather has made for some potent wildfires on Mt. Hood. The smoke blows down into Vancouver so we can all experience its smoke-y goodness. Yippee for us. I’m hoping for some rain to come and clear the air, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. But there doesn’t seem to be any rain in the forecast.

Dana considers sunflowers a sign of the end of summer. But so so pretty! The ones in Else’s garden are in full bloom and have plenty of bees to visit them. The weather ‘round these parts has been sunny and hot, just the way sunflowers like it. But I’m ready for some cooler weather.

Magnus from space!
We had the chance to go out to night and see Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It was pretty epic. And no apes were harmed in the making of the movie, so PETA wants you to see it…
Thank you to Else and Elina for watching Magnus and eating our delicious treats from Dairy Queen.
