Who can resist some warm banana bread?

We took Magnus to the library today. He thought there were many interesting things to see. Among other things, he liked this table inlaid with pocket detritus (K for keys, B for beans, R for rocks, etc.).

Magnus loves exploring people’s faces. Those who love him let him. Thanks, Anton.

Construction is complete! They finished the next-door apartments and our neighbors have moved back in. They let us come in and see how nice it looks. We’re only a little jealous (but also glad we didn’t lose all our belongings in a fire.)

We reorganized the pantry this afternoon. Magnus helped by managing the “priority 1” cans of food that need to be eaten first. Thank you to all the nice people who sent us Valentine’s packages! Magnus especially enjoyed the Thor valentines from the Guptills and made sure to eat his.

At Deception Pass. This is the northern part of the island. There is a bridge that crosses over to Fidalgo Island called Deception Pass. It’s called that because the first explorers thought the two islands were one island, passable by this isthmus which turned out not to exist.
The water was beautiful. We could see seals swimming around below the bridge. It even stopped raining while we walked over. Watch the main blog for our post about the rest of the trip.

Dana had work off two days in a row, so we took the opportunity to run away to Whidbey Island for a couple of days. (We called this our Valentine’s celebration.) We took a ferry from Port Townsend to the island and explored a WWII barracks and visited the beach. Here is Magnus on the ferry enjoying the view.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Dana had to work tonight, so we didn’t do anything special. But while he was making himself some lunch he took this picture. A watched pot may not boil, but a photographed one does just fine.

I bought these today at a consignment shop. They’re a little big but hopefully he’ll grow into them…

Fort Vancouver held a special exhibit focused on history of the written word at the Fort. They had several original letters from the McLoughlin family dating from the 1800’s. The question asked was: what would you write home if you could only send one letter a year? This letter from 1832 was written using “cross writing” to help save on paper. There were also lots of old postcards of Vancouver and we got to try out an old fashioned pen with the ink jar.

Emily sent us this great book made from our 365 blog of last year. Thanks, Emily! We love it!

We went and watched Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace tonight at Cinetopia. Thanks to Weird Al, Magnus was well behaved for Farmor and we had a fun times. Thanks to Anton for buying the tickets!

Some time ago I acquired an expired gel pen set that I decided to use for an elaborate art project. I took them out today and organized them by color. And worked a little on the project.

Magnus loves no-clothes time. Dad loves tickling Magnus during no-clothes time. Magnus loves it when Dad tickles him during no-clothes time.

Happy Birthday, Terry!
Magnus has a tongue, something he likes to remind us of.

Dana has applied to the University of Alaska at Fairbanks (brrr!) and this is what they print on their envelopes. We hope it’s true…

Superbowl Sunday!
We watched the Superbowl and were sorry to see the Patriots defeated (Go Pats). Magnus decided he should know how to climb on things and made it all the way over these footstools (uninjured).

On Sundays we often ask our primary kids what their favorite something is (prophet, temple, scripture story, etc.). They always want to know what Magnus’s is. We have to tell them he doesn’t have a lot of favorites.
But he does have a favorite song.
“Ode to a Superhero” by “Weird Al” Yankovic. No Joke. It’s a parody of “Piano Man” by Billy Joel (which he also likes, but not as much) about Spiderman. If he’s sleepy it’ll usually put him to sleep on one play through. If he’s sad it’ll make him smile. Thank you, Mr. Yankovic.

A pretty sunset from Prune Hill in Camas.
Magnus has been having some trouble keeping away from our Wii and all its accoutrement on our TV stand. So we found a new (taller, with cupboards) one on Craigslist. This was the view from the house where we picked it up.

Happy Groundhog Day!
Shadow: Yes = 6 more weeks of Winter.
I got a chance to go to a community poet’s meeting tonight held at the library. Dana watched Magnus and supervised his nap and getting of this awesome ‘do.
Wednesday, February 1st, 2012
One of Magnus’s new favorite games is taking all the books off the shelf. He’s very thorough.
Monday, January 30th, 2012
Ivan brought us pizza for dinner tonight. Thanks, Ivan! Magnus loves it when people sit on the floor with him. He had fun playing with Grandpa.
Sunday, January 29th, 2012
Sunday at Farmor’s. Anton got out his remote controlled lego robot. Magnus had fun trying to catch it.
Friday, January 27th, 2012
I left this container on the stool thinking it was safe. Not only did he get the container off the stool, he got the lid off the container before I knew anything was wrong.
We call him Mr. Fantastic now. Nothing is safe.
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
We got out the dominoes to try and stave off cabin fever today. Magnus liked the clatter sound they made when he crashed them together.
Tuesday, January 24th, 2012
We had a nice date night while Farmor watched Magnus. We went to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D.
